Linxon delivers on contract with Svenska kraftnät, contributing to the extension and upgrade of the Swedish capital’s electricity transmission grid.

 The new 400 kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) substation in the Mårtensdal area of Stockholm, for which Linxon was awarded the contract in 2019, is now commissioned. Designed to meet rising electricity demand, the Skanstull substation is one of several grid reinforcements underway – or programmed – for the capital region.

Svenska kraftnät is currently modernising Stockholm’s electricity network via Stockholms Ström. Comprising more than fifty projects over the next twenty years, the ambitious programme includes a new cable tunnel under the city, voltage upgrades and the replacement of ageing substations. An estimated 1.5 million citizens will benefit. Located at the southern exit of the cable tunnel, the Skanstull substation is a double storage building, built partly underground to save on space in the urban area.

Linxon, is already working on similar turnkey substation projects for Svenska kraftnät in Ringhals, Hall, Grundfors and Kilanda. In October 2023, Linxon also announced a contract with for the brownfield development of an 8-bay 400 kV air insulated switchgear (AIS) substation in Jokkmokk, a key component of the Aurora Line. This cross-border Swedish-Finnish power line, which seeks to equalise energy prices and reduce dependency on fossil fuels, forms part of the Fossil-Free Upper Norrland programme (FÖN). As part of the same programme, Svenska kraftnät selected Linxon in November, 2023 to deliver a new 10-bay 400 kV AIS substation to power H2 Green Steel (H2GS)’s mill in Degerträsk near Boden.
