The 400 kV New Butwal Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation is a strategic transmission infrastructure project supporting Nepal’s ambition to strengthen grid reliability and expand cross‑border power exchange. Delivered under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) funded program, the project plays a critical role in enhancing transmission capacity and enabling regional electricity trade with neighboring countries.
Linxon’s delivery includes the engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of the 400 kV New Butwal GIS Substation. The scope includes the complete delivery of a modern 400 kV GIS facility, integration with the existing 220 kV substation, and interface coordination with associated cross‑border transmission infrastructure.
All works are executed in full compliance with MCA Nepal, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), MCC requirements, and applicable international standards, ensuring a safe, reliable, and future‑ready transmission asset.
The New Butwal Substation will enhance grid reliability and transmission capacity, enabling increased cross‑border power exchange between Nepal and India. GIS technology optimizes land use while delivering high reliability and long‑term performance.
The project strengthens Nepal’s energy security by supporting power exports to neighboring countries, reinforcing economic growth, regional power trade, and MCA Nepal’s sustainable infrastructure objectives.
