In order to meet the continuous power demand in Southern Iraq, one of Iraq’s largest private industrial conglomerates Shamara Holding Group (SHG) was in 2015 selected to build and operate Rumailah 3000 MW natural gas combined cycle power plant.
Linxon has now been awarded the contract for the fifth and last extension of the 400/132 kV substation for the Rumaila 3000 MW PP. The client is International Free Company (IFC).
During the entire project phase, Linxon has been supporting SHG with engineering to design the most optimal technical solution of the 400/132 kV substation to export 3000 MW from the power plant to Iraq transmission grid. The supply also included engineering and procurement packages of the 400/132 kV substation at various stages to match completion of the power plant construction.
The power plant is operated by Rumaila IPP, a subsidiary of SHG and will after this final extension have a capacity to export 3000 MW of electricity to the Iraqi transmission grid, stabilizing the power quality and reducing CO2 emissions in Southern Iraq.
The Linxon fast-track supply covers system design, engineering and procurement of power products such as 400/132 kV HV equipment, control and protection panels, SCADA integration, steel structure, busbars and switchyard material. The project also includes technical support for the AIS substation.
The 400/132 kV substation at Rumailah 3000 MW PP will be the largest substation in Iraq consisting of 14 no’s 400 kV diameters, 33 no’s 132 kV bays, 4 no’s 400/132 kV 250 MVA auto transformers, 1 no’s 400 kV 50 MVAr shunt reactor and the footprint for the entire substation will be 700 X 250 m.
