The Shams 400/132 kV Substation will integrate solar power from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MBR) Solar Park into the Dubai electrical grid. The MBR solar park is located inland 50 kilometers south of Dubai and is a central part of Dubai’s renewable energy strategy.
Since Linxon took ownership of the Shams 400/132 kV Substation construction in year 2019, our main functions include project management, design, supply, installation and commissioning as well as civil works. Once the project is completed, it will have an overall capacity of more than 2,000 megavolt amperes (MVA).
As a main contractor responsible for SHAMS project, Linxon will design, manufacture, install and commission the 400 kV & 132 kV Gas Insulated Switchgears (GIS), 4 x 500MVA transformers (ICT), 2 x 100 MVAr reactors, 4 x 30MVAr reactors and associated protection system. The substation control & monitoring system delivered in SHAMS project will be complying with DEWA cyber security system requirements.
As part of “Shams Dubai” initiative from Dubai Government, DEWA has also included delivery of roof top on-grid solar system (260kW) in SHAMS substation and the energ generated is used to supplement the utility grid in feeding HVAC system loads during the day.
When completed, SHAMS substation will play the main role along with the already commissioned MBR Solar 400/132kV substation in the power evacuation of MBR solar park.
