Grundfors substation in Sweden energized

October 30, 2023

Designed and delivered by Linxon to modernize the transmission grid, the turnkey 400 kV Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) substation commissioned by Svenska kraftnät is now operational.

In February 2020, as the Grundfors substation’s lifespan came to an end, Linxon was awarded a contract for its upgrade as part of a wider refurbishment program undertaken by Svenska kraftnät.

As an important cog, the Grundfors substation allows for a local hydro power plant to connect to the transmission grid, helping manage electrical demand from cities to the north of Sweden.

“A big thank you to the Linxon team and the client for joining forces to deliver this state-of the art substation, far out in the northern part of our country,” said Andreas Burstedt, Linxon’s Hub Nordic Managing Director.

Linxon’s involvement in this $20 million contract included project management, engineering, equipment supplies, civil design, civil works, mechanical and electrical installation and commissioning. The upgrade also entails the relocation of two existing transformers (350 and 750 MVA) and two reactors. Moving forward, the team will focus on the demolition of the old Grundfors station.
