January 16, 2023

Kolkata’s purple line metro, Joka-Taratala has been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing from Ahmedabad.

Linxon bagged the Joka –Majerhat DC Traction Metro Project from RVNL (execution authority for Kolkata Metro Railway) during September 2019. At Present, Purple Metro is commercially running between Joka to Taratala and it will be extended further to the remaining last station Majerhat by Sept’2023 to complete the entire Joka- Majerhat Corridor.

The Joka-Taratala Metro line will help to decongest the city traffic on busy Diamond Harbor Road and curb the vehicular pollution substantially. This project is a great example of Linxon’s sincere commitment towards a carbon-free infrastructure development and net zero emission target.

There are six stations – Joka, Thakurpukur, Sakherbazar, Behala Chowrasta, Behala Bazar and Taratala on this route. Trial runs on the 6.5 km stretch of Joka -Taratala stretch of Kolkata Metro are being held since mid-September’22 and it received the mandatory Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) clearance in November’22.

Linxon has the complete scope of DC traction system including third rail work in Viaduct and Joka Depot which is partially completed for the present service. In addition to the traction and third rail system many other state-of-the-art systems are installed by Linxon – such as gas flooding fire suppression system for indoor traction substations, stinger system for DC power charging of the rolling stock, etc.

The engineering of the project is done by Linxon India Engineering team from Chennai along with the guidance and coordination of the site execution team, based on actual site requirement in line with the tender specification and customer design approval.

“The overall final completion deadline was timely met due to Linxon meticulous planning, close coordination, strong execution, and great teamwork among all stakeholders including Rail Vikas Nigam Limited & Metro Railway, Kolkata”, said Vivek Rawat, Operations Director Transportation, Linxon Asia-Pacific.
