Newly established Hitachi – ABB joint venture impact on Linxon

July 1, 2020

The divestment of ABB Power Grids to Hitachi was announced in December 2018. The transaction is now complete as of July 1, 2020. This Joint Venture expands existing partnership and strengthens Power Grids as a global infrastructure leader with enhanced access to markets and financing. The new name of the joint venture company is Hitachi ABB Power Grids.

The interest in Linxon is now carried on by Hitachi ABB Power Grids. As well, our Linxon logotype tagline will be converted to Linxon, a Hitachi ABB Power Grids & SNC-Lavalin company, to honor our parent partners.

Linxon is an independent company whose shareholders were SNC-Lavalin and ABB. It was set up in September 2018, to take over from ABB the business of delivering turnkey electrical AC substation projects. From a business perspective, nothing has changed in the new set-up, where Linxon combines Hitachi ABB Power Grids (former ABB Power Grids) deep technological knowledge with SNC-Lavalin’s project management expertise into a company dedicated to substations.

“I am confident that the shift in parent partnerships will be of great benefit for us. We are unique, being a single point of contact for the clients combining accumulated knowhow of key-suppliers and contractors so that customers benefit from efficient solutions, increased industrial productivity and a lower environmental impact. During the last two years we have been building our success story and now we can share it with Hitachi as the new parent partner, and still enjoy passed experiences and support from ABB and SNC-Lavalin”, says Frédéric Tréfois, CEO of Linxon.
