Linxon signs a 47-month contract with Hitachi Rail to deliver Traction Power Supply & Distribution and 1500 V DC Overhead Catenary System for Manila’s North South Commuter Railway.
In its largest engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) project in the transportation segment to date, Linxon is to work on a section of Greater Manila’s commuter railway. Running 35.4 km from Solis to Malolos and including nine stations, this project is part of the North South Commuter Railway, a 147 km line currently under construction from Calamba to Clark.
Hitachi Rail is delivering the electrical and mechanical systems and track works for this project, and Linxon has been contracted the complete power supply solution – including the overhead catenary system and power SCADA for integrated OCC.
With close to 15 million people, Manila is the densely populated, bay-side capital of the Philippines. Designed to improve connectivity within the Greater Manila Area and integrate into the regional rail network, the North South Commuter Railway will make a significant contribution to decongesting the city and reducing carbon emissions.
Linxon’s vision of sustainable transportation fully aligns with the project’s deliverables. Linxon has worked on similar projects, such as the Delhi Metro Rail, the Bangalore Metro Rail, the Kochi and Kolkata Metros and the Chennai Metro Rail in India, as well as Bangkok’s Pink and Yellow Monorail in Thailand. With this first project in the Philippines, Linxon will open an office in Manila for the project team.
“Linxon is delighted to set foot in the Philippines by partnering with Hitachi Rail for this essential commuter infrastructure development,” said Dinesh Chadha, Managing Director of Linxon in Asia Pacific region. “Moving forward, we hope to be able to develop this exciting market, as we have others in the region, by together working towards a cleaner tomorrow.”
