Kalpa V Murthy loves providing wide-ranging HR support for Linxon, even though she’s employed by Atkins – another member of the SNC-Lavalin Group. Her experience working across 2 companies underlines the value of breaking down barriers, being open and learning from each other.

Even in her free time, Kalpa seeks out opportunities to meet new people and discover new places. Her hobby of landscape photography takes her on journeys across India to different cities, where she can understand more about the lives of those living there, their cultures and cuisines. And this people engagement is reflected in her professional life, too. After completing her Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science and then her MBA in Human Resources Management, she started working with Atkins in 2019. Being hired by Atkins and providing support for Linxon enables her to learn and implement best practices from each organization. “What makes me proud to be a part of the Linxon family is the openness across various regions,” she explains. “This has facilitated my collaboration and given me exposure to all the individuals and departments that make up the company.”

First-hand experience at Linxon’s Chennai office

This cross-company contact has only been enhanced by being able to visit Linxon’s office in Chennai. For Kalpa, who was born and raised in Bangalore, this opportunity – during which she assisted with the introduction of a new member to the HR team – allowed her to meet new people, and get to know them and their jobs better.

Talking with the team and hearing about their day-to-day experiences also helped enhance her business acumen skills. Reflecting on the benefits of seeing different sites and parts of the company, she continues: “I was able to expand my horizons and create strong business networks. This sparked a deep sense of admiration for the staff members and their commitment to the business.”

A real HR multi-tasker

Although it’s great to take such unique trips, Kalpa’s daily role is also truly varied. She oversees what is known as the “Hire-to-Retire” process for Linxon globally – that is, managing everything that an employee needs over the course of their career. This means she’s involved in processes ranging from payroll administration and benefits to mid-year and year-end reviews, as well as managing the Learning & Development portal.

She also creates reports for the business management team and works alongside the HR leadership team which, she says, comes with a perk of personal mentoring. And she again gains a wider perspective by working with regional colleagues when offering audit support and cascading business communications. All in all, her exciting and collaborative role has “helped me develop into a person who can now handle all the challenges that are associated with a diversified organization.”
