“One of the key factors in my progression is my own personal drive to push through doors that the company has opened for me.”

For Mohamed Ahmed Fouad Abdelrahim, being able to grow professionally – whether through studying, certification, or tackling on-the-job challenges – is an important part of career satisfaction. His engineering experience has led him on a varied path and helped him bring people together on exciting projects.

Mohamed’s professional journey has taken him far and wide. Since graduating from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering at Menoufia University in Egypt, he has already worked in Saudi Arabia and Switzerland, before he joined Linxon in late 2021. He is based in the Linxon Bahrain branch, and the company’s global mobility program has taken him to UK to support as a SCADA commissioning lead. What’s more, in 2021 he completed studies in ICS/SCADA Security Essentials with the SANS Technology Institute, which is based in Maryland, US. So, what does he find so exciting about such a culturally diverse career? It helps him having a global mindset; means gaining cultural awareness, becoming aware of my biases, and becoming great at adapting to people from different cultural backgrounds.

Cooperation and communication are key

This varied journey has been driven by Mohamed’s skills as an engineer. He has over 14 years of experience which he has focused around SCADA design, engineering, testing and commissioning, and he previously worked as Senior Commissioning Lead at ABB for around a decade.

“Currently, I’m leveraging all my experience and knowledge to support our UK projects,” he explains, adding that it’s truly motivating to be involved in such a pioneering, renewables-based project. “I cooperate with all the different teams to maintain quality levels and boost progress so that we can achieve full customer satisfaction.”

When it comes to bringing people together, he draws on his strengths in communication. He elaborates on this, saying: “I lead by facilitating open communication, and trying to bring out the best in every team member.”

Climbing the growth ladder

Mohamed also believes in trying to bring out the best in himself. “One of the key factors in my progression is my own personal drive to push through doors that the company has opened for me,” he underlines. As an example, he has just completed Professional certification from GIAC Certifications, as he was keen to expand his skills in this area and grow personally and professionally.

He’s also happy to progress by tackling ever more challenging roles: “I thrive in work environments that facilitate development through the gradual introduction of different, higher-level tasks so I can become more adaptable and adept in my role over time,” he says.

These are exactly the kind of challenges he’s found at Linxon. “The opportunities here are wide and varied. For those willing to put in the commitment and dedication, this can be very rewarding!” he concludes.
